FAQs

What is the purpose of ABA therapy?

ABA therapy programs are designed to use the science of learning and behavior to help your child live a safer and more independent life. We focus on building necessary skills and reducing problematic behavior. ABA therapy helps caregivers respond to their children's behavior and communication in a more effective manner.

How does ABA therapy help to reduce problem behaviors that are harmful to my child or others?

Reducing challenging behavior is a process that requires patience and consistency. During this process, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst on your child's team will define the behavior, document what is occurring before and after the behavior, and make program modifications to help reduce the challenging behavior. During this process, consistent communication from your team will help you to better understand the ABCs of behavior change.

Why is there controversy surrounding ABA therapy?

Early research in applied behavior analysis used punishment procedures to help to shape behaviors which is one controversy in our field. Another concern surrounding ABA therapy is it's repetitive nature and insistence on extinguishing self-stimulatory behavior through "masking."

Today, behavior analysts are trained to ensure the safety of every client. We use positive behavior supports and take time to build positive relationships with your child. We are held to a high ethical standard that is actively practiced at Minds in Bloom ABA. Additionally, we celebrate differences and want each child to be able to express themselves through their individual personalities. We use the science of behavior to help increase behaviors that will help individuals be more independent and live happier lives among their family and friends.

How long will my child need ABA therapy?

Because each learner has different needs for ABA therapy, the time can not be determined. However, your child's programming will be revised as needed and new goals will be assessed every 6 months

Why is parent coaching required?

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) cannot be with your child 24/7. At Minds in Bloom ABA, we work as a team to help parents implement strategies with their child ensure generalization of skills and consistency.
